PDT3100 Scanners Setup

Load Scanner PDT 3100 Documentation

 

Machine used:

OS: Microsoft Windows 98-Second Edition 4.10.2222 A

Intel Celeron Processor- 128.0 MB RAM

File System: FAT 32

Virtual Memory: MS-DOS compatibility mode

Use “Null Modem” cable to connect to PC.

Software Loaded: VHTP3140.HEX

(Verify that hex file to be loaded is date 11/17/1999 716Kb)

 

Procedure:

 

Load program onto handheld.

 

Press <Pwr> to turn off the handheld

 

Press and hold the <F><I>keys and then press and release the <Pwr> button while holding the other keys. Then release the <F><I> keys.

This will put the handheld into the “COMMAND MODE” screen.

 

Select the “Program Loader”(Use the down arrow t display the option on the screen and then press <Enter> to select it.)

When the screen says “Program Loader”, make sure the handheld is in the cradle.

At the “warning: EFPROM will be erased, continue?” prompt, press <Enter> to erase the EFPROM. This will take a minute or so to erase. (If the software was previously wiped out then this message will not appear.)

At the “Comm Parameters Baud” prompt, set the baud rate to 19,200(Or whatever the rate is on Dos screen on PC). (press the up arrow to do so).

Set the "Databits=7", "Parity=odd" and "Flow Control=Xon/Xoff" prompts until it displays “Receive:" on the receiving screen.

Note: if the screen shows "Awaiting DSR" then the handheld does not have a good connection to the PC, check all connections and make sure cables are secure and null modem is in place.

 

Get the PC (Windows 98-Second Edition) ready to transfer the information: this must be done in a certain time frame or the scanners will time out. Sometimes it’s best to have this part ready to hit enter to begin the transfer.

Open a dos window (Start-run-type 'command') and go to the symbol directory containing the sendhex.exe and send.bat files. (At the prompt type 'cd 3140') .

At the prompt, type "send" and hit <enter>. This will start the PC portion of the transfer program.

On the PC, hit enter and the program should begin to upload and show percentage of completion.

On completion of a good transfer, handheld will display a status of "0000".

 

Set up for handheld operation:

 

After the program has been uploaded to the handheld, a warm boot will be needed.

Press <Pwr> to turn off the handheld

Press and hold the <4><5> keys and then press and release the <Pwr> button while holding the other keys. Then release the <4><5> keys.

 

Several things will begin to scroll across the scanner screen. It will finally bring up the CONFIG MENU

Select the "Local IP Address" option from the "Config Menu".

Enter the appropriate settings for the following:

 

IP Address: 999.999.999.999( Address for handheld)

IP Router: 999.999.999.999( Address of the router/gateway for the network)

IP Netmask: 255.255.255.0 (Subnet mask)

Press <CTL>then <S> to save the changes.

 

(IPs for Lockbourne the setup would be like the following

192.168.1.185

192.168.1.200

255.255.255.0

)

 

Select the "Domain" option from the "Config Menu" and enter the IP Address for DNS servers (192.168.0.254 ; 192.168.0.224).

 

Select the "Remote IP Address" option from the "Config Menu".

 

There need to be 2 options set up. “RBeacon” and “Accellos”

 

Enter "RBeacon" as the "Config Host".

Enter the appropriate settings for the following:

Remote IP Address: 192.168.0.253 (Address of the PC that runs the telnet server / RFBase)

Server Alias Name: RBeacon

Port# 23

Terminal type: VT220 (press <CTL> then< N> to select) (press <CTL> then< N> again to select next option)

 

Move down to next blank position on screen and press Enter

Enter "Accellos" as the "Config Host".

Enter the appropriate settings for the following:

Remote IP Address: 192.168.0.20 (Address of the PC that runs the telnet server / RFBase)

Server Alias Name: Accellos

Port# 23

Terminal type: VT220 (press <CTL> then< N> to select) (press <CTL> then< N> again to select next option)

 

Press <CTL>then <S> to save the changes and return to the "Config Menu" screen.

 

Select the "Network ID" hex code. It should be the same as in the Access Point Configuration ( default 101).

 

Press <CTL> then <S> to save the changes and return to the "Config Menu” screen.

 

3. Move down to next blank position on screen and press Enter

Enter "RF Host" as the "Config Host".

Enter the appropriate settings for the following:

Remote IP Address: 192.168.0.101 (Address of the PC that runs the telnet server / RFBase)

Server Alias Name: RF Host

Port# 23

Terminal type: VT220 (press <CTL> then< N> to select) (press <CTL> then< N> again to select next option)

 

Press <CTL>then <S> to save the changes and return to the "Config Menu" screen.

 

 

 

Select "Exit" option from the "Config Menu".

 

Scanner should then ask for a reboot. Press <Y> to reboot.

 

Scanner should be ready for operation

 

To set IP address to a handheld already loaded:

FUN-- CTL--- R one of the time

Pssword: system

Main Menu --Config Menu --- Local IP Address

Set new configuration, then

CTL—S to Save

Reboot ? -- Y
