PURPOSE

 

 

 

In order to maintain the lifts in running condition, it is vital to perform regular maintenance on the forklifts on a weekly basis, at FARO Services.

 

 

 

SCOPE

 

 

 

The Forklift Maintenance guideline in this section is for FARO Services in Columbus, Ohio.

 

 

 

PREREQUISITES

 

 

 

FMT must be able to read and write in English and have a background in general auto mechanics.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITY

 

 

 

A person will be designated as the Forklift Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for inspecting one forklift on a daily basis on a weekly rotation.

 

 

 

PROCEDURE

 

 

 

1)   The FMT will inspect the sit-down forklifts and the standup forklifts using the checklist.(See SOP -003-02)

 

2)   Each inspection will be logged in the Forklift Maintenance book, and will be reviewed by the Safety co-coordinator. (See SOP-003-07)

 

3)   The FMT will add any fluids the forklift is short on and will note it on the FM book.

 

4)   In addition, the FMT will note any defects or issues with the forklifts on the checklist. Depending on the nature of the defect or issue, the FMT could lock out the forklift if it violates any safety protocols. If any forklift is locked out, the FMT must notify the safety co-coordinator as soon as possible.

DEFINITIONS

 

 

 

FMT – Forklift Maintenance Technician

 

 

 

Sit-down Forklift- Any propane or battery operated forklift that has a sit down type of seat.

 

 

 

Stand-up Forklift – Any battery operated forklift that is operated by an operator who stands up instead of sitting down.

 

 

 

Forklift Lock-Out- In case of a forklift suffering issues or problems that have serious safety concerns or present a safety hazard, will be parked, the keys removed, and a “ DO NOT USE- Out of Service” sign posted on the forklift.
