Limited Nomenclature

As requested, I will explain what I think you need to know in terms of our EDI nomenclature:

  • 850” is the name for our EDI transmission of a purchase order (you receive this EDI)

  • 856 E3” is what we call the ASN (advance shipping notice) for an ocean shipment (you receive this EDI)

  • 856 E4” is what we call the ASN (advance shipping notice) for an air shipment (you receive this EDI)

    • The 856 E3 and 856 E4 are similar, but for the different ship modes

    • Both the 856 E3 and E4 provide a complete list of what was shipped, when the shipment is leaving, when it will arrive and how it will get there.

  • 861 D1” is what we call the CFS Cargo receipt acknowledgement – it let’s us know that you’ve received shipment at your facility (you send this EDI to us)

  • 861 E9” is what we call the Cargo shipment acknowledgement – it let’s us know that the shipment has left your facility  (you send this EDI to us)

On May 25th, Stephanie emailed to you a test 856 E4 for shipment # SDB010000000002 (same as what you attached to your email to me this morning) and requested that you respond by sending back and 861 D1 and E9 files for that shipment.  We are still awaiting receipt of correct versions of those two EDIs for that shipment.  If you believe you’ve sent us correct versions of those two EDIs already, please email those files(s) to me today.
